Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Recently, while on a road trip, I had the privilege of listening to an amazing podcast featuring Gina Bria, founder of the Hydration Foundation and a leading expert in hydration. Eagerly, I hoped to hear simple tips on increasing water intake, but her message went far deeper, transforming my understanding of hydration on a cellular level. This profound insight left me in awe and reminded me of the "living water" referenced in scripture.
Gina, drawing from her background as an anthropologist, shared how desert-dwelling communities, with limited access to water, were often better hydrated than those of us in water-abundant Western societies. How? Their water came primarily from food sources, such as desert plants. The water within these plants closely mirrors the structured water within our cells, allowing for better absorption and hydration.
As I listened, my Christian faith illuminated her words. I couldn’t help but think of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well, offering her the gift of living water:
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst” (John 4:14).
The depth of God’s design became increasingly evident—how the body’s cellular, emotional, and physical functions reflect His intention and purpose.
Gina explained how water in our bodies generates electricity, transmitting information to our cells. This process requires both the right structure of water and a coherent signal. Without this, the body becomes chaotic and dysfunctional. But when everything aligns, the body works in harmony.
Doesn’t this mirror the transformative work of Christ within us? With Him as our living water, He brings coherence and order to the chaos in our lives.
The connections didn’t stop there. Gina noted that water’s movement and functionality are also influenced by sound, such as the rhythm of our heartbeat.
Our hearts play a vital role in signaling and ensuring water flows effectively within us, preventing stagnation.
Scripture immediately came to mind:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).
The heart—our emotional and spiritual core—when filled with love and joy, produces the highest frequencies, amplifying life-giving coherence throughout our being.
Science supports what scripture has long declared: Love and joy are the highest frequencies, impacting not only our emotional well-being but also our physical health. The greatest commandment, to love God and our neighbors, holds profound implications for every facet of our existence.
Love and joy resonate within us, creating harmony in our cells, just as Christ’s love brings harmony to our souls.
The more I delve into the intricate design of our bodies, the more my faith transforms from two-dimensional to multi-dimensional. Each discovery reveals the interconnection between scripture, science, and creation. Just as we are fearfully and wonderfully made, so too are the plants, animals, and all living things that sustain us.
All of creation points back to the Designer, with Christ at the center of it all.
This podcast didn’t just deepen my understanding of hydration and the type of water we need to thrive; it revealed a greater spiritual truth. We are designed to thirst for the living water that only Christ provides. When we allow Him to flow within us, He brings coherence, life, and purpose.
Let us take a moment to marvel at the intricate design of our bodies, the wisdom of scripture, and the boundless love of our Creator.
In Him, we find living water that sustains us not just physically but emotionally and spiritually. Truly, we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Reflection and Inspiration
"The water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14)
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." (Proverbs 4:23)
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." (Psalm 139:14)
As you reflect on these truths, may they inspire you to care for your body, heart, and soul, and to seek the living water that brings eternal life. We are not designed without purpose; every detail of our being reflects the profound love and wisdom of our Creator.
